Thoughtful Thursday…And looking for your input
The link to my latest blog post is as follows:
http://extrovertexpounds.blogspot.com/2012/05/thoughtful-thursday.html
But before you go there, I have a couple of questions to ask my readers.
I started this new blog and I notice that there are lots of visits to it but very, very few comments.
Just know, I love and appreciate each and every comment. It is a vital part of why I blog.
I was afraid to “step out” and do my own blog because I was nervous about people not wanting to go out of their way to see what I had written.
But here is what I am trying to sort out and I need your help.
Is it a pain for you to follow this link to my new blog?
Is commenting on the new blog hard to do?
In your opinion, is it just easier if people stay on Xanga?
What could I do to make the transition easier for you?
I was excited about the new blog and some ideas that I had for my blog for the summer, but if it means that it makes it harder for others to participate and follow my blog, then I probably will just come back to Xanga. With my tail between my legs!

Anyway, interested in input. You can leave comments on Xanga or message me or whatever.

The link isn’t always working… I’ve had trouble getting to it. Sometimes I’m not done looking at posts/entries on Xanga, and don’t want to spend a lot of time looking at other things until I’m done catching up on Xanga, so when I follow a link such as a blog I tend to read it and then head back to Xanga. That said, I love reading blogs, so I will try to support yours better.
I’ll chalk this up to being lazy on my part but I really hate going over to another site to read someone’s blog. The only blogs I like to read aside from xanga are like the pioneer woman and matt, liz and madeline. Or Cakewrecks and Catalog living if those really count as blogs. As far as reading my friends, I typically never follow them elsewhere. Which is sad, but I just get into my routines of reading xanga only. I’m sure you could get more followers probably at blogspot or wherever, but I just never go there. I have a blogspot blog too, but I completely forget i have it a lot!I didn’t even remember you had a blog somewhere else. I’m such a bad friend!
I have seriously considered starting a blog elsewhere myself. Maybe even do a no comment type blog, posting about my life growing up Amish and how it affects me currently. BUT the thing is, I don’t know IF i want many followers whom I know personally.?? Guess that is what keeps me from writing it now……Personally I follow a new blog a couple times than comment once I get the know how, it just takes me a couple times to get with the program. I really like your new blog, name and all. =)
i have your blog in my google subscriptions, as well as a number of others of people i know or kind of know, but for some reason, i rarely comment on blogs other than on xanga. maybe it doesn’t have as much as a “family feel” or something? I don’t know, because it doesn’t make sense, even to myself. i WILL try to comment on your blog, though. at least sometimes. i guess whether you stay there or come back to xanga depends on what your blogging plans are. If you want to expand your audience, for example, it might be good to be on blogspot or whatever it is.
i think that your new blog has a great look…and i’ll repeat this as well, your little “headline” there is super witty and clever. something i already knew about you. but how cool to have that communicated in a sentence!!! as far as it being a pain…hmmmm. no. but i was reminded of why i don’t care to travel around to other sites. it simply takes more time. and then commenting takes longer because it opens a new window, i need to sign into my account and then it needs me to prove i am not a robot. i also realize that others highspeed internet is…highspeed!
mine is the slowest highspeed there is. also i was thinking kinda what @mikenpeg - said about “not until I’m done catching up on Xanga” and @bethro78 as far as getting into “my routines of reading xanga only” what AM i saying?! it IS easier for me when people just stay on xanga. that’s me.however…wherever you blog…i will be getting there when i can. there’s my thoughts on a thursday! love ya!
Yep, I know all about the less comments deal. But I guess that’s not a huge issue to me. There are other perks however. My fam and friends not on xanga love to be able to access my blog w/o having a xanga account.
Guess I see your new blog as more”private”, don’t know why. Kinda thought you were stretching your writing roots. What do you comment to someone who is expressing themselves? Guess I wonder why you really are that concerned about comments if you are writing for expression. If you need validation…I’d just stay on Xanga…that seems to be where your readers are. (not trying to be mean or confrontational, just saying). Would you be able to blog if you disabled the comment portion?
it’s easier for me to comment on xanga
i love to read your stuff tho!! ….it’s just like what cindy said. i have to be signed in to google n then prove i’m not a robot etc.happy weekend!!
The robot thing plus its just a couple of extra clicks so all that stuff together makes me not want to comment. I’m sure Jenny would have wise words on this – she successfully switched.I have been on the fence for awhile about starting another blog, because parts of xanga drive me crazy. BUT…I can’t leave my subs, and I guess I think they won’t follow me if I leave.I wondered what appololly meant. I thought it was some kind of secret/joke/nickname from yesteryear. Boy am I disappointed!
@srheam - I am really confused by your comment. Of course it’s nice to get comments about what you took the time to write. It doesn’t mean that it’s validation…it’s relationship…it’s people showing that they care about you or sometimes it’s giving an opinion about what you think. Even if it’s expression – that doesn’t mean we don’t like to have people comment.Audrey – I will read your posts regardless where you are blogging. I get to them late a lot of times & then I don’t always comment. But I love any kind of writing you do!
I’ve seen this happen with almost everyone who switches from Xanga. It is harder to comment on other blogs because it takes a few more clicks. Sometimes I even take the time to write a comment, then I’m not signed in to whatever platform–say WordPress–so then when I try to sign it sometimes my comment gets deleted. Frustrating. Anyway…if you like your new blog (I do…I like the themes you’re starting) you can link each post to FB and people will comment there because it’s quick and easy. Oh, the one thing you could do to make it easier to comment is to allow anonymous commenters or also commenting with a name/URL . I don’t know if you do or not, but that does make it easier on non-xanga blogs. I’m starting to prefer reading blogs in my Google Reader, but I don’t comment as much.
@thegrabertribe - I guess I just feel like sometimes things that are written are real life (kinda like giving your opinion in someones diary) If people are writing down things for their own growth as a writer…do you criticize them? do you validate what is said? how it is worded.I love the blogs that Audrey writes. I like her style and I like that it is every day life. Often I can relate. I guess I am just not so sure why the blog was moved to another site.
hmm.. i get all this. the part about liking feedback and others thoughts. to me, blogging is two fold. a journal for me to record things, but as we’ve said before
if that were only it, i’d keep it in my nice little notebooks by the side of the bed. but this sense that it’s a big conversation among a bunch of women is FUN! i love good conversation. it inspires me and motivates me and challenges me. even this “conversation” here in your comments is intriguing and interesting and causes me to think things through more..but. as far as the other blog. i echo what everyone else has said. it’s another click. i’m lazy. and i hate. hate hate HATE the whole proving i’m not a robot thing. for crying out loud can’t blogger think of something else. like a simple, click this box if not a robot!
and often, i put in the wrong letters so i have to do it all over again. {annoying!} i’m often signed in under google though, because of my email, so if it weren’t for the robot thing it would be a pretty easy comment process…i do think that our community here of readers among xanga can be touch and go. i’m the same! the last few wks have been crazy busy and i just have not had the time to read and comment like i want. and that means, reading every word and giving a thought out and meaningful comment.. not just skimming and putting something for the sake of putting something. you know what i mean? and i know that alot of our friends here i think are the same – if there’s not the time they feel to truly read they won’t comment. OR. we have alot of moms. stay at home. homeschooling moms {raising hand} that can just often feel their brain is too tired to comment.
they’d rather just read and not have to say anything.. from what i’ve seen.. blogger has a great and very ACTIVE community of commenters! maybe just because it’s bigger than xanga. but, i have a few friends that moved to blogger and it took time – MONTHS – but now they have a great readership and community there.so. very long winded i know. but.. i think if you want to keep your xanga readers keep blogging here {though i’ll follow ya wherever}
but if you’re wanting something new, different, go with blogger, but you might have to branch out in the blogger community and try to get to know women there and build new readership, etc.love, always, what you have to share. and of course.. just like this post and you just putting it out there and asking – “hey.. WHERE is everybody???”
love your realness.
pretty much what the others said here, Aug…..
I hope you can decide how you want to go about this. Change is always hard and if you stay with your new site, it will take time to find your place. Love you.
Yeah for me it’s just more time consuming and I just don’t have a lot of extra time these days!
I hardly ever read blogs not on xanga. I put them in my google reader, but hardly ever go over there b/c by the time I’m done w/ my xanga subs, my internet time is shot. And the commenting thing is soooo much more work everywhere else. But if you stay over there, at least pull your posts into fb to remind me to read them b/c I don’t want to miss you!
