Mis-Matched Sayings
This morning I was in my office doing bookwork and I stumbled across this yellow post-it note from at least a half year ago.
On it, I had started keeping a list of phrases I heard mis-quoted. I guess just because it cracks me up.
There are all of these tried and true sayings that everyone uses. You know, those ones your Mom was always saying to you.
For instance:
Better late than never.
A bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush.
A penny saved is a penny earned.
A picture is worth a 1,000 words.
You get the idea, right?
Well, I started keeping a list of people who I heard mis-quoting these phrases and planned to do a funny post on it sometime.
I must have forgotten about it after a while, because my list only has 5 things on it, but I thought I would share them anyway…before I throw this little note away.
“It keeps you on your heels” — Sarah Palin (on her reality show)
“I cry at the drop of a dime” — My friend Edy
“I gotta get my hand around it” — My boss at work (he meant, I need to wrap my HEAD around it)
“around the board” — My husband (he meant, “around the block”)
“They painted themselves into another box” — Nascar announcer
(Its a corner, dude. You paint yourself into a corner.)
Anyway, that’s my Saturday morning brilliance.

i love stuff like that! thanks for sharing…. sat morning is a fun time to post, i agree.
teehee! too funny. stuff like that annoys me….but, it’s funny at the same time.
Most of the time I notice people didn’t say the right thing but I can never remember what the right way is after I hear it the wrong way

if you go on wikipedia they have misquoted sayings…its intriguing to read. “Elementary my dear watson’ was NEVER said in any of Sir Athur Conan Doyle’s books about Sherlock Holmes, it was coined in one of the first movies. in watching NCIS one of the characters is speaking english as her second language and most often she gets stuff right but some of her saying are very messed up…its interesting to try to figure out what she meant. thanks for sharing this with us Audrey
Funny.
I have a hard time remembering the proper way to say a quote, so I try to avoid them. Did you ever think how crazy some of our cliches would come across in another language?

These are funny! I love it.
I love when people *almost* get it. Like:
“Don’t take it for granite”
“On what bases are you operating?”
“For all intensive purposes…”
It goes to show often we hear something but if we don’t read it, we never see the correct form or really understand the correct usage.

*oh brother* or maybe i just plain stepped on the wrong foot! 
i think it’s fun to say those phrases wrong on purpose…altho’ i’ve found myself in awkward moments when either my sarcasm is too advanced
