Fashion Help Needed. Anyone?
I’m not really back, not quite ready to start writing again.
Although I will admit that I have four or five posts written and saved in my Google Docs by now.
I have been enjoying my break. And wondering how in the world I used to find the time to write so often?
God has been continueing to work in my heart.
I want to be at a place where I feel at peace to blog again and where I am able to do it out of the proper motives and then let the chips (or comments, in this case) fall where they may.
But, in the meantime…I have encountered a fashion crises. And who to better help me solve it than all of my wonderful Xanga friends?
OK, maybe that’s ^^^ a bit dramatic…but, whatever.
I bought this dress late year…in late summer or early fall.
I have not had a chance to wear it yet, because the weather was not exactly conducive to this type of attire.
But…now it is getting warmer and I am anxious to wear it.
Here is the dilemma…
This dress is TOO short for me to comfortably wear on its own.
You might disagree, but I am not comfortable wearing something that, when I bend over, you can practically see my underwear.
OK??
The top I am fine with, as long as I wear a cami underneath or I could maybe also wear something over top if I have something that would work for that.
If I look a little sleepy, its probably because I was. Were up with friends till past mid-night (VERY late for this “usually sleeping by 10 PM” kind of girl) and this was on Sunday morning before church.
I tried the outfit with jeggings underneath, since I didn’t think that black leggings or grey tights would work out very well?
Why Do I Not Stand Up Straight? (That could be the caption for this picture)
Or – Pull Your Shoulders Back, Girl!
I asked Jeremy repeatedly if he thought this looked OK and he continued to stick by his response, which was “I am NOT the person to ask about that.”
Pretty smart man, huh?
So, I turned to my 3 year old for fashion advice. Yes, that IS the kind of confidence I have in my fashion savvi-ness…I am willing to listen to what my 3 year old has to say.
I said “Nikki, what do you think of this outfit?”
She said “It looks kind of weird!”
So I said “What part of it looks weird?”
And she said “Well, I think that the dress is pretty, and the shoes are pretty, but that other part (the jeggings) just looks kind of weird. I think it would be more prettier if you took those off.”
There you have it.
Gotta love how that little chick doesn’t mince any words.
So, is she right?
Do the jeggings and white dress look weird?
What else could I do with this dress to make it work for me?
Help, please!!

I think I’m with Nikki…..BUT, the red sandals are ca-UTE!I know, that doesn’t help you out much, does it.
Same, no leggings, cute sandals ~
shorter leggings.
Gotta love those daughters. My sister will listen to her daughters advice 1st thing, because she can expect that straight forward honesty ,”It looks kind of weird!” LOLI think those jeggings are just too dark and heavy. You could wear it with a lighter legging or colored ones to match your cami. Or longer underskirt would look pretty too. Either something the same color… a light weight skirt or also a color to match the cami. It does look cute on it’s own, but I am with you on the bending over bit…especially something you have to do with kids!
It’s a beautiful dress Audry! Love the sandals! I do think the long dark leggins are overwhelming that pretty spring dress. I think some 3/4 length lacy cream or white leggings would look cute with it. I have the same problem… I find so many darling dresses that are all about 4 or 5 inches shorter than I like.
How about light to medium gray leggings with lace edging in a shorter length? And a gray cami. :)
It’s Audrey!!!A pair of skinny jeans would look great with it. That’s usually how I wear my too short dresses. I think I need to see it in real life to know for sure about the jeggings, but contrary to what others are saying, I think they’re ok. You could also get a shorter pair of leggings. Another suggestion, kind of what ABAHM said, get a little bit longer of a skirt, like knee length and wear the dress over it. My sisters do this and it looks cute.
Definatly shorter leggings … Maybe if you want longer ones wear something to add texture to your neck region. I don’t know why I even respond to this one! I am so unfashionable!
i’m glad to see you here!! been missing you!!!!the fashion advice….pretty much the same as what others are saying. i’d go for lighter and shorter leggings or skinny jeans. the skirt underneath thing would be cute too. i’d probably keep all the colors more neutral.let us know/see what you do with it?!
Love the dress, and the shoes. Go with some cute short capri leggings and you’ll be set!
Ok, my fashionista daughter and her fashion savvy boyfriend both say, the dress isn’t too short. JUST don’t bend over! LOL! Brianne also agreed with me that a slip type tulle fabric thingy underneath (same color as cami and shoes) would look really good. So, there ya have it! YOU are a DOLL, by the way. I think I’ve told you that already. But to boost your esteem…..
It’s been two weeks away from xanga and now i’m trying to catch up… i don’t consider myself a fashionista, i just get lucky once in a while… and it’s always easier to picture what would look better on someone else. i agreed with elizabeth that the skinny jean look could look great with this and that things sometimes look much different IRL. i’d do maybe a lighter wash skinny (ripped) jeans/jeggings and i’d pair it with more layering on top, like a cute shrug… so that it pulls the whole look together?… and stuff that looks bohemian… and neutral, so it doesn’t look overwhelming and so that the shoes are more the center of attention. I hope this is good advice, but I know you’ll figure out a great way to wear it regardless!
as a tall person who enjoys dresses sometimes, it seems that i also have a similar conundrum. alot of the time i do wear leggins or skinny jeans just to pull it off. love the suggestions here and i don’t consider myself too fashionable. glad to see you writing..miss you, but understand the need to be away and re-evaluate and such. love the dress ad the shoes..hope that you figure out a way that you LOVE to wear it.
hey, you have to check at like kohls or maybe pennys…but there are these cute “leggings” (i am sure that’s not what they are called cuz they are so short…but??) out this spring that are just like leggings but are very short. they have lace at the end of them, too. so my thought is that you could wear them w/ this dress and i doubt you could even see them. however, the problem of bending over and seeing buns would totally be taken care of. i think some of the layers mentioned might be ok for spring, but what about this summer on a really nice warm evening?? i doubt you will be wanting to be messing w/ layers. ?? this way, your upper thighs/butt would be/feel covered without sacrificing the look and purpose of a dress. personally, if you are gonna wear jeans w/ it you may as well just buy a cute baby doll top and skip the dress. i just feel like jeans and dresses together look kinda bulky unless you are a teeny bopper and spindley. or if you are gonna go “bohemian” then it would only look right w/ very loose linen-ey/cotton-ey pants. ?? just MHO.
also, another option instead of a tank top (again, thinking of a very warm summer day) is “niki bikis” (found here http://www.sotoboutique.com/_product_56779/Nikibiki_Bandeau_(1015)). these are awesome!! and def worth investing in several colors! i am pretty sure you can find the same idea w/ lace at the top somewhere…i have seen them advertised on tv.
AUDREY!!!
Hey beautiful, your hair is getting longer I see!!
It’s early morning, I’m not feeling very fashion confident (like I ever do), but I too think the dress is cute and the shoes are pretty. Now for a shower myself and maybe I’ll manage to dress half decent for the day. Hope you are having a wonderful week…..
I don’t have advice, but just wanted to say hi.
I’d wear some middle calf length white leggings and if you’re going to keep the shoes then wear a sweater of the same color on top with either a white or red inset in the top.
i was going to say the same thing a lot of the others said…. shorter leggings. like mid to upper calf ?and if it was me, id wear a contrasting color (maybe matching whatever i wear on top?) but then that’s me
glad to see you again!
What a darling dress! I love it! And I see you’ve gotten such great advice already, so I’ll just say hi and can’t wait to see what you do with all your suggestions.
your back!!! i missed you! love the dress and i think you’ve gotten lots of good advice already!
I can also see the shorter legging-s things. White. A chunky brown leather belt just under the bust, a funky, chunky necklace in brown and a brown shrug type sweater.
Don’t feel bad, I’m always asking one off the boys which earring or shoe looks better.
